This video does a decent job of explaining Mary Wollstonecraft's ideas from the section of her writing that we read. What do you think of the contemporary examples? Do they work and do you think that they are relevant to what Wollstonecraft meant?
Well, I'm not exactly offended by the video. I think using Twilight as an example oversimplifies the point Wollstonecraft is trying to make, though. We have too many connotations that go with the Twilight series to not make that a dangerous example to pick. Our own associations of ideas will change our conceptions of what Wollstonecraft originally meant.
Also, considering that we live in an age where education for women is available, the reasoning for Twilight's existence is much different than it would have been at the time. I'm not sure it's an accurate example except in terms of shallow plotting...
