Freudian slips

It was mentioned in class that cultural interpretations of Freud are not always accurate representations of what Freud actually believed. Do you think that this song, "Freudian Slip" by Ray Stevens, is an accurate representation of any part of Freud's ideas?

  1. I think Lacan would be delighted by the fact Freud has been reduced to a symbol. Anytime the pastiche-producing artists of our predatory market want to talk about sex, which is all the time, they need only say Freud. And Freud certainly is libidinous. However, the slip would have to do with revelations of the unconscious mind. Ray Stevens does not appear to be suffering from repression. He is actively advertising his sexual hunger.
