The article below theorizes that there was a common theme of hyperreality in the movies of the 90s such as Schwarzenegger films, The Matrix, Memento, and Star Wars, to name a few. Even without reading the article, do you think that these movies could be examples of hyperreality?

ReplyDeleteNice find, but I think that the article is sort of hit and miss. I think the correlations w/ certain films are very good, but I'm not sure about the conclusions that Laist draws. I think he's still stuck w/ the notion of mimesis, that films are reflecting reality. I think the issue is, as G&G and Baudrillard and Lyotard say, that cinema has become our political and social realities, and thus, are what we believe is true.
